EXMARK MOVES FROM RED TO GREEN

Mowing Manufacturer Announces Environmentally Conscious Lineup for 2008

Beatrice, Neb. (October 25, 2007) – As high gas prices continue and concerns about the environment grow, Exmark remains committed to manufacturing environmentally friendly products and investigating "green" technologies.

Exmark, a leader in the manufacturing of commercial lawnmowers, will offer a fuel-efficient lineup during the 2008 model year. Concurrently, Exmark's engineers and research and development department will continue to explore alternative fuel technology for possible future use.

"As a leader and innovator in the landscape industry, it is Exmark's goal to provide products that not only offer our customers maximum performance, but are environmentally responsible," said Mark Stinson, Exmark President and CEO.

Exmark will feature several environmentally conscious products in 2008, including the Lazer Z 28 hp Kohler Electronic Fuel Injection (LZ28KC605) unit. The unit marries Exmark's leading product, the Lazer Z, with Kohler's 28 hp EFI engine. The Kohler EFI reduces carbon monoxide emissions by 90 percent.* And in Kohler consumer tests, Electronic Fuel Injection engines reduced fuel consumption by up to 25-30 percent compared to carbureted engines.

Exmark has outfitted selected machines with Kohler EFI engines since 2001.

"Kohler's industry exclusive closed loop EFI system works the same as the system in your car," said Cam Litt, Kohler Senior Product Manager, Commercial Engines. "The on-board computer is continuously monitoring the engine to maximize efficiency and minimize emissions."

Other Exmark environmentally friendly initiatives include:

  • For the second straight year, all diesel-engine models will be capable of running on B5 biodiesel fuel. Emissions from bio-fuels and biodiesel blends are lower than petroleum-based diesel fuels making them more environmentally friendly. B5 comprises a mixture of 5 percent bio-fuel and 95 percent petroleum based.
  • All 2008 gas-powered models comply with the California Air Resource Board (CARB) tier III emissions regulations. These regulations require lower levels of exhaust emissions on all models and evaporative controls on select models.
  • For the third straight year in 2008, low permeation fuel lines will be standard on all Exmark units. Low permeation fuel lines prevent fuel from passing through the walls of the fuel hose and seeping into the outside air as fuel vapor.
  • All Exmark 21- and 26-inch mowers sold in California are fitted with evaporative controls.

Garry Busboom, Exmark's Director of Research and Development, said the company will continue to work with leading engine manufacturers to encourage the development of systems that can operate efficiently on other alternative fuels, such as E85 (contains up to 85 percent ethanol by volume) and propane, which produce fewer emissions than gasoline.

"Exmark is committed to exploring and implementing more environmentally conscious systems," Busboom said.

* Emissions and fuel economy data comes from Kohler engine lab tests at 50% load. Actual results may vary depending on engine loading conditions.
